2008 OFF DUTY RATES To Whom It May Concern: The King County Sheriff’s Office Manual contains the following that will be pertinent to off-duty employers: Section 2.22.030
1. The off duty hourly rate for officers shall be established by the King County Police Officers Guild.
2. The off-duty hourly rate for Captains shall be established by Public Safety Employees, Local 519.
3. Officers working off-duty shall ensure that they complete a W-4 or request that the employer issue a form 1099.
Section 2.22.025 Commissioned Officers working off-duty shall not use police vehicles unless approved by a Section/Precinct Commander or above. The requirements for use of the police vehicle are outlined in this section of the manual. If use of the police vehicle is approved, the off-duty employer may be required to reimburse King County for vehicle expenses. These costs are determined by the Budget and Accounting Section of the King County Sheriff’s Office). As of January 1, 2008, the off-duty hourly rates for commissioned King County Deputies and Sergeants shall be as follows, with a four hour minimum for each scheduled event:
SCHEDULE –A- General Security For employers paying using W-4:
Deputy $37.87 Sergeant $45.74
For employers paying using 1099:
Deputy $40.71 Sergeant $49.16
SCHEDULE –B- General Security at events with live music and/or alcoholic beverages, traffic control and other hazardous events. For employers paying using W-4:
Deputy $45.43 Sergeant $54.88
For employers paying using 1099: Deputy $48.81 Sergeant $59.00
Sergeant rate applies only when working “in class” as a Sergeant. This does not restrict Sergeants from working out of class in an off-duty capacity for Deputy wages. Deputies and Sergeants who work in an off-duty capacity on any of the holidays listed below are to be paid at one and one half times the rates listed in either Schedule A or Schedule B: New Year’s Day Labor Day Independence Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas

Day In the event of a cancellation, the employer will be required to give the Deputy or Sergeant twenty-four hours notice. In the event that a twenty-four hour notice is not received, the employer will be responsible for a minimum of four hours of pay. The hourly off duty rate shall be adjusted each year on January first. Any exceptions to the above listed rates must be approved by the King County Police Officers Guild Board of Directors.
