APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES:

The minutes from the February 27, 2008, General Membership Meeting have been posted at the worksites and on the website.   A copy of the minutes was not available for review and approval at this meeting.

ENDORSEMENT OF DINO ROSSI FOR GOVERNOR:

The Political Action Committee previously recommended forwarding the endorsement of Dino Rossi for Governor to the General Membership.  A motion was made by Steve Eggert to endorse Dino for Governor.  The motion was seconded by Mark Lemoine.  Motion passed unanimously.  Dino will receive an endorsement letter from the Guild.

MONETARY REQUEST – SOCCER TOURNAMENT:

Sgt. Sydney Jackson requested a $1000 donation for the North American Police Soccer Tournament to be held in Seattle, September 10 – 14th.

The donation was discussed and members questioned exactly where the money would go.  An email about the request indicated the beneficiaries of the event were two non profit charities, Childhaven and Treehouse.  It was assumed by some members that the charities would receive any money collected after expenses were paid out (typical for this kind of event).  Other members were not comfortable with giving $1000 without getting further explanation about exactly where the money was going to.

Bob Lurry made a motion to approve the donation of $1000 for the soccer tournament.  Don Dougherty seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion failed, 5 to 4.

NEW BUSINESS:

Bob Lurry stated that new hired deputies are being brought out to the Precincts immediately after being hired.  They are being paired up with Deputies on patrol.   This practice enables the new hire to experience law enforcement up close.  Bob stated the program is a good way to keep interest peaked and is a good training tool; however, the Deputies should be compensated for the obvious training that is taking place.

FTO’s currently receive vacation or pay for each day of training they conduct with a new Deputy.  This practice of compensating Deputies has also traditionally extended to non- FTO’s who take “Free Week” Deputies on the street.  The Deputies doing this work now should be paid accordingly.

Steve Eggert will address the matter.

ADJOURNED:

The General Membership Meeting adjourned at 1430 hrs.
