CALLED TO ORDER:

The General Membership Meeting was called to order at 1600 hrs by Vice President Pat Bowen.

APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES:

The  July 25, 2007 General Membership Meeting Minutes have been posted and were submitted for review.   A motion was made by JK Pewitt to approve the minutes as presented.  The motion was seconded by Mark Lemoine.  Motion passed.

MONETARY REQUEST – CASA

Pat Bowen presented a requested for a monetary contribution on behalf of Detective Joe Gaddy for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).  Family Law CASA is having their First Annual Golf Tournament and is requesting the Guild’s support.  To paraphrase the letter of request – the Family Law CASA is a four year old private non profit organization that is one of a kind, advocacy program for disadvantaged children.  Funds received by the organization go directly towards representing the best interest of low income marginalized children whose struggling parents are involved in contested custody cases with serious allegations.  The request was briefly discussed and those present felt the cause was very worthy but outside the scope of what the KCPOG usually supports with our limited budget.  The request died for a lack of motion.

USE OF FORCE SEMINAR:

Marcus Williams requested the Board approve sending current Board Members to the Lewinsky Use of  Force Training Seminar.  The training is nationally recognized as one of the best seminars involving the administrative review of use of force incidents.  The training will benefit all KCPOG members by furthering the participants education and knowledge when reviewing Use of Force statements, particularly, officer involved shootings.  The participants will gain a better understanding of the mental and physical dynamics of life threatening events that affect officers during and after critical use of force incidents.

A motion was made by Marcus Williams and seconded by Ron Kierce to approve expenses for Board Members interested in attending the seminar.  Four members expressed interest and will attend at a cost of $310 per participant, plus two days per diem.

ADJOURNED:

The General Membership Meeting adjourned at 1650 hrs.
